The DLSA Infant Program initially focuses on the importance of water safety and awareness. From the age of 3 months we begin with our FREE Water Familiaristion (WF) Classes. Our WF classes will gently introduce you baby to the aquatic environment. Through songs and play, your baby will begin to learn some basic water awarness skills. Our WF program also has a high focus on Water Safety Education.
Following our WF classes our infants and toddlers begin to learn the reflex action. The reflex action is a series of skills such as water orientation, breath control, floatation skills and propulsion skills.

Now that, together with you, your child has been shown the importance of the reflex action, it is time for them to try it on their own. Our Super Toddler classes allow confident toddlers to continue their skill development unassisted. Mums or dads will still need to be in the water each class because we will also begin to introduce more advanced skills with your assistance.
It’s now time for Mums or Dads to let their children swim by themselves. At this stage your child will start to learn some of the important drills required for Learn to Swim.

This level will take your child through the last few steps of total water confidence. Deep water treading and will ensure that your child is confident and competent in the water environment.
Your child will set up a strong kicking action and body position for freestyle and backstroke in preparation for learning freestyle and backstroke arms. Like the foundations of a house, taking time to get these skills in place now will pay off when the swimmers attempt more advanced skills in higher levels.
Children progressing to LTS 2 have achieved a comfortable, well balanced head and body position. These are very important ingredients for swimming efficiently. We now concentrate on freestyle and backstroke arms while maintaining the body position.
The swimmers focus on doing a high skill level over shorter distances to ensure the body position skills are maintained.
Children at this level are swimming freestyle and backstroke with great efficiency.
LTS 3 sees a greatly increased learning curve with the introduction of breathing in freestyle, breaststroke arms and legs and butterfly legs.
We also start to swim linger distances to improve strength, fitness and lung capacity.

To learn how to swim the correct way, your child must first learn to relax in the water. This is achieved by developing and practicing both standing and prone position skills in a safe and comfortable swimming environment.

For many children 3 years of age and up, this is the first step to learning how to swim. WC1 is strictly a shallow water level where children are assisted with all drills to gradually build shallow water confidence. Children will also learn breath control, floating, kicking and submersion.
Now that your child has shallow water confidence, it's time to take the next step. During WC2 level, your child will be gradually and gently introduced to the deep water. We will then start to teach the basics of treading water. Children will also be encouraged to start completing the drills on their own.
As your child becomes unassisted in the water we will use our WC3 level to begin working on the correct swimming body position for freestyle and backstroke. The drills introduced at this level will help your child cope with the advanced stroke technique work in the later levels.

We've worked hard to build a solid base to be able to swim and maintain an efficient technique for both freestyle and backstroke, now we work on maintaining that skill level while increasing the swimming distance.
As well as this we challenge the swimmers with range of new skills as we introduce butterfly and breaststroke. By the end of our Advanced Learn-to-Swim program each swimmer will be swimming all four strokes to the best of their ability and quite capable of staring our Squad Program to further their swimming fitness and skill level.

We now start to increase the distance your child can swim while maintaining efficiency.
We will further develop breaststroke and butterfly while introducing bi-lateral breathing (breathing both sides in freestyle) and an advanced shoulder roll for backstroke.
Now it's time to increase to a more advanced skill level while maintaining stroke efficiency. Stroke development will challenge young swimmers as they learn more difficult swimming skills.
We will finish off/correct any stroke deficiencies in our Pre Mini level as well as increasing the amount of swimming your child can do at a high efficiency level. Upon completion of this level, swimmers will be swimming all four strokes with a high level of skill and efficiency and ready to take on the challenges of Mini Squad.
